Vanillaware (ヴァニラウェア有限会社 Vanirawea Yūgen-gaisha) is a Japanese video game developer. Originally founded on Feburary 8th, 2002 under the name Puraguru, the company was formed from members of the Atlus team that developed the 1997 Sega Saturn game Princess Crown. It was renamed Vanillaware in 2004. The company has long since been praised by both fans and game media alike for embracing 2D game design in an era where many games are rendered in 3D. The company is responsible for the creation of Odin Sphere, its remake Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir, and several other games.
